Are you looking for the best cheap but chic budget hotels in Paris where you can get affordable low rates and a comfortable night's sleep while experiencing the alluring charm that we associate with Parisian style?
In a city known for its luxurious and expensive 5-star hotels where just one night can cost a hefty 4-figure sum, do affordable (and by "affordable," I mean rates starting at around €100-€200) hotels that exude charm and comfort even exist in Paris?
Absolutely! You just need to know where to look - a skill I honed during years of visiting Paris on a budget.
In this article, I share 15 of my favorite chic, charming, and cheap Paris budget hotels, including some hidden gems where I've stayed and loved the experience, several which friends highly recommend, and a few on my "future visits" list.
How to Get the Lowest Paris Hotel Rates
- Book as far ahead as possible
- Avoid June, July, and the Christmas/New Year holidays when rates may soar
- If you're sure of your dates, book a non-refundable rate
- Reserve the hotel's smallest room to get the cheapest rates
- For more amenities, consider staying in a "double digit" Paris arrondissement
- Skip the hotel breakfast; pick up your coffee and croissant at a nearby bakery

Best Budget-Friendly Hotels in Central Paris: Louvre, Saint Germain, Latin Quarter, & More
These charming, highly-rated hotels are located in Paris's central arrondissements (1-9), home to most of the city's famous attractions such as the Eiffel Tower, Notre Dame, and the Louvre Museum.
This is the most popular part of Paris with tourists and business visitors, so hotel rates reflect that - which is why 2-star and 3-star hotels are the sweet spot for finding bargains at around $200 or less.
Hôtel Montpensier ★★

12 Rue de Richelieu, 1st arrondissement
Hotel Montpensier's 40 guest rooms (which include triples and quadruples) feature simple but chic decor, with classical touches. All rooms have private bathrooms, wifi, and air conditioning in spring and summer.
There's also a tiny, quaint elevator that holds one or two people.

The hotel's location can't be beat when you want to be just a few minutes' walk from the Louvre, Palais Royal Garden, and Tuileries Garden.
Palais Garnier (the Paris Opera House) and two of the city's luxury department stores (grands magasins), Galeries Lafayette and Printemps, are about a 10-minutes on foot.

Hôtel Opéra Maintenon ★★

36 Rue Rue Sainte-Anne, 1st arrondissement
Stay at Hotel Opéra Maintenon and you'll be in the heart of one of Paris's trendiest culinary scenes where dozens of French and Asian bistros and cafes attract crowds of enthusiastic fans.
The hotel has 19 guestrooms and occupies an elegant 17th century mansion, air conditioning, free wifi, a safe at the front desk (with 24x7 staffing), and an accessible ground floor guestroom.

A small elevator services the floors 1-4, which means you'll need to walk up the stairs from the ground floor to the first floor - ie, 2nd floor if you're North American - but the staff will help you if needed.
Best of all, Hotel Opéra Matignon's central location means you're close to the Louvre, the Paris Opera House, and Palais Royal Garden, plus one of the city's loveliest 19th century covered shopping passages, Passage Choiseul.

Hôtel Bonne Nouvelle ★★★

17 Rue Beauregard, Sentier, 2nd arrondissement
The recently renovated 3-star Hotel Bonne Nouvelle is located on a quiet semi-pedestrian street in the Montorgueil/Sentier neighborhood, once known as the epicenter of Paris's wholesale fashion district and now a major destination for foodies.
The 20 simply furnished guestrooms feature comfortable bedding, Nespresso coffee machines, en suite showers, free wifi, and air conditioning. An elevator goes to four of the hotel's six floors.

Nearby, you can explore the popular Rue de Nil and Rue Montorgueil food streets. A couple of my own favorite places to eat in this area (Brasserie Dubillot, Bouillon Julien).
The hotel is also near the Paris Opera (Opera Garnier) and the Marais, and about a 15-minute walk from Galeries Lafayette. Even closer is the fascinating Musée de Chocolat.

Paris France Hotel ★★★

72 Rue de Turbigo, 3rd arrondissement
Paris France Hotel, a 1910 Belle Epoque property, offers 45 recently renovated guest rooms and suites including a few triples and quadruples for family and friend groups.
All rooms offer wonderful views of a nearby church or other elegant Haussmannian buildings, individually controlled air conditioning, and in-room safes. The hotel has an elevator, and also provides free wifi.

The hotel's location in the Upper Marais gives you easy access of all the small museums, wonderful boutiques and specialty stores, hidden gardens, and numerous cafes and bistros that this popular neighborhood is known for.
You can also easily explore the nearby Place de la Republic and Canal Saint Martin to the east. If you walk south for about 10 minutes through the Marais, you'll reach the Seine River. Cross the bridge, and you'll be on Ile de la Cité, home to Notre Dame Cathedral and other top attractions.

Hôtel de Roubaix ★★

6 Rue de Greneta, Upper Marais, 3rd arrondissement
With 54 guestrooms, Hôtel Roubaix features decor ranging from quirky to quaint, charming to fun.
The vibe here is homey and comfortable, according to a couple of my friends who stayed there recently and loved everything about it, including its piano, shelves full of books, and puzzles for guests to enjoy.

The hotel provides air conditioning, an elevator, and safes in the guestrooms, some of which have balconies. There are also a few triples, in case you're traveling with family or friends.
This part of the Marais is packed with wonderful bistros, bars, and boutiques. Nearby, you'll find the fascinating Musée des Arts and Metiers, focused on France's industrial arts.

Hotel Clément ★★

6 Rue Clément, Saint Germain des Pres neighborhood, 6th arrondissement
With a wonderful location on a quiet side street in the heart of Saint-Germain, boutique Hôtel Clément features 28 charming guest rooms and suites with comfortable beds, air conditioning, an elevator, in-room safes, and budget-friendly rates - a true hidden gem in this upscale neighborhood where high rates prevail.
During a recent stay here with my husband and older daughter, we loved the lavish breakfast with many choices and gourmet products - definitely above and beyond what's on offer at typical 2-star hotels.

Hotel Clément is the sister hotel to the excellent 4-star Hotel Molière (another of my favorites) across the river in the 1st arrondissement near the Louvre.
The Marché Saint-Germain covered market across the street, and the magnificent Saint-Sulpice Church is about a 2-minute walk away. You'll also love the neighborhood's numerous bistros (including the famous Les Deux Magots cafe) and designer boutiques as well as its location near the Seine River.

Hotel Amélie ★★

5 Rue Amélie, 7th arrondissement
Hôtel Amélie exudes charm, with bright colors, art, and poetry featured in each of its individually decorated 16 guest rooms. Each room in the hotel tells a story.
To be clear, rooms are small, and the hotel does not have an elevator, lobby, or air conditioning. If you're looking for something fancy, this isn't it.

But what you do get is place to stay on quiet lane for fairly cheap rates in an upscale, highly sought-after neighborhood near the Eiffel Tower.
Also close are the Seine River, the Army Museum at Invalides, and the Rue Cler market street where you'll find wonderful bakeries and cafes - although the whole neighborhood is packed with superb places ranging from casual to Michelin-starred where you can enjoy a meal or drink.

Hotel La Canopée ★★★

15 Rue de Penthièvre, 8th arrondissement
Chic and modern with 25 well-appointed guest rooms, 3-star Hotel La Canopée offers lovely parquet floors, air conditioning, in-room safes, and super-comfy beds.
As a bonus, there's a small fitness room on the lower level - rare in a 3-star hotel.
You can enjoy breakfast and your morning coffee on a terrace offering tranquil garden views.

Another plus: affordable rates, especially considering the hotel's excellent 8th arrondissement location close to Champs-Élysées, Jacquemart-André Museum, Madeleine Church, and all of the wonderful designer boutiques along Rue du Faubourg Saint-Honoré.
You'll also find lots of excellent restaurants and bars nearby.

Hotel Chopin ★★

46 Passage Jouffroy (street address for Passage Jouffroy: 10 Boulevard Montmartre), 9th arrondissement
Hotel Chopin, located in the historical glass-roofed Passage Jouffroy shopping arcade, opened in 1846 when the passage was built, and has been charming its guests ever since with its 36 individually decorated guestrooms overlooking the rooftops.
The hotel has an elevator, free wifi, and in-room safes, but no air conditioning, although fans are available.

The hotel's unique location in the boutique-lined covered passage adds to its romantic ambiance.
Take time to visit Musée Grevin, Paris's wax museum with fascinating displays devoted to French history, fashion, and cuisine, and to explore nearby Passage Verdeau and Passage des Panoramas.
Palais Garnier (the Paris Opera House) and Galeries Lafayette are less than 10 minutes away on foot, and this neighborhood is also filled with wonderful cafes and bistros.

The Walled Off Hotel Paris ★★

44 Rue du Faubourg Montmartre, 9th arrondissement; nearest metro: Le Peletier
For an immersive dive into the world of street artist Banksy, consider staying in the 2-star The Walled Off Hotel Paris, a reproduction of its Bethlehem counterpart and like the artist, somewhat subversive and quirky.
The hotel's public spaces such as the lobby are a part of Paris's permanent Banksy exhibition, available for ticketed visitors to explore.

In addition to the experience of staying in a Banksy-themed guestroom, you'll also enjoy budget-friendly rates. No-frills 1-person singles and no in-room toilets or showers offer cheap rates well under 100€, and the larger rooms with en-suite bathrooms also fall into the very affordable price range.
The hotel provides safes in each of its 28 guest rooms, an elevator, and free wifi, but does not have air conditioning. Sound proofing reportedly could be better. Near the hotel, you'll find a lively (and often noisy) nightlife scene and the pedestrian-only Rue Cadet food street. Pigalle and Montmartre are a 10-15 minute walk.

Best Affordable Value-Packed Upscale Hotels in Paris's Outer (10-20) Arrondissements: Montmartre, Batignolles, Belleville, More
These hotels are located in Paris's outer arrondissements (10-20), where you'll find a wonderful selection of residential neighborhoods - perfect when you want a less-touristy, more authentic experience (however brief) of what it feels like to actually live in Paris.
Paris's excellent public transportation system makes getting to the central part of the city fast and easy.
In these areas, you can will get more space and amenities at 4-star and even 5-star hotels at budget-friendly rates of around €200.
Bloom House Hotel & Spa ★★★★

23 Rue du Chateau Landon, 10th arrondissement
The luxurious 4-star Bloom House Hotel & Spa offers 91 light-filled guestrooms and public spaces featuring elegant modern decor, an indoor swimming pool and spa, a fitness center, a bar, and a beautiful onsite restaurant and terrace garden filled with plants.
You'll love the hotel's location if you're arriving at either Gare du Nord or Gare de l'Est, as it is only about a 5-minute walk to both of them. Canal Saint-Martin and all its trendy boutiques and bistros, Place de la Republique, and Sacre Coeur are also nearby.

Hotel Moderniste ★★★★

5 Rue de Langeac, 15th arrondissement
Hotel Moderniste, located in Paris's village-like Convention neighborhood offers 40 guestrooms, including rooms that can sleep up to 5, a modern vibe, and affordable rates.
Like its sister hotel, Hotel Fabric in Oberkampf, 4-star Hotel Moderniste offers excellent soundproofing and super-comfy bedding. Complimentary coffee, tea, and madeleines during the afternoon and an evening honesty bar will help you feel at home.

The Convention neighborhood feels authentically Parisian and far from the touristic center - but thanks to its convenient metro station, you can get to the Louvre in about 10 minutes.
On weekends, visit the vintage and antique book market at nearby Parc George Brassens, which also offers a seasonal puppet theater for kids, a duck pond, and even has its own small vineyard.

Terrass' Hotel ★★★★ Montmartre

12-14 Rue Joseph de Maistre, 18th arrondissement; nearest metro: Blanche
The chic 4-star Terrass' Hotel in Montmartre boasts spectacular Eiffel Tower views from its 7th-floor rooftop bar and some of its priciest guest rooms.
Although you can book one of the spacious upper floor rooms or suites and watch the Tower sparkle from your own private balcony, rates for these special havens reflect the hotel's 4-star amenities (fitness room, spa, co-working space, onsite restaurant) as well as the views.

Surprisingly, Hotel Terrass' is also one of Paris's best "hidden gem" budget-friendly hotels hiding in plain sight.
That's because the hotel also offers smaller (although still fairly spacious) rooms on lower floors for affordable, budget-friendly rates - which means you can book the cheapest room yet still watch the Eiffel Tower sparkle from the top floor bar.
Montmartre's top three attractions, Moulin Rouge, Sacre Coeur, and the Wall of Love are a 5-10 minutes walk from the hotel.

Hotel La Belle Ville ★★★★

349 Rue de Belleville, 19th arrondissement
La Belle Ville's 59 eco-friendly guest rooms and public spaces offer a light, bright, and airy haven in a tranquil mostly-residential part of Paris's hip Belleville neighborhood.
With attractively low budget-friendly rates, 4-star La Belle Ville offers fantastic value in an authentic, non-touristy part of the city.

A metro station about a 1-minute walk away from the hotel makes reaching central Paris neighborhoods such as the Marais fast and easy.
You'll also find a lot to explore nearby, including the Buttes-Chaumont and Belleville Parks and Pere Lachaise Cemetery.
Nadaud Hotel ★★

8 Rue de la Bidassoa; nearest metro: Gambetta
Family-run Nadaud Hotel, situated on a quiet street about a 1-minute walk from Pere Lachaise Cemetery's Porte Gambetta entrance on Rue des Rondeaux, is a small, highly-rated 2-star hotel with 26 guestrooms and a "green" environmental approach.
Nadaud Hotel offers a lot of value, including amenities not found in most 2-star properties: in-room safes, free wifi, and elevator service to all six floors.
Most rooms do not have air conditioning; in the few that do, it is turned on only when the City of Paris issues "high heat" alerts.

Although you can request a continental breakfast to be served in your guestroom (there is not an onsite breakfast room), you also have plenty of neighborhood choices for enjoying a leisurely (or quick, if you prefer) coffee and croissant.
In addition to checking out all the fascinating graves at Pere Lachaise Cemetery, check out the bargains at one of Paris's value-packed flea markets, Marché de Montreuil, about a 15-minute walk from the hotel.

Novotel Paris 20 Belleville ★★★★

64 Boulevard de Belleville, 20th arrondissement
With a cool industrial-chic vibe in the lobby and guest rooms, an onsite bistronomic restaurant, and many other appealing restaurant options nearby, the 4-star Novotel Paris 20 Belleville is popular with visitors who like the laid-back but trendy multicultural Belleville neighborhood and fast access to central Paris, thanks to the nearby Couronnes metro station across the street.

The hotel's bargain rates (for a 4-star Paris property) are also well-known, so book well in advance of your dates, especially if you want one of the rooms with a balcony.
Pro Tip: Take time to explore all of the nearby attractions: Pere Lachaise Cemetery, Canal Saint-Martin, the immersive art shows at Atelier des Lumieres, street art, the large and vibrant Marché de Belleville open air market along Boulevard de Belleville (Tuesdays and Fridays, about 8am-2:30pm), and the neighborhood's two great parks, Parc des Buttes Chamont, and Parc de Belleville.
